The wind beneath my wings... Anita

Anita Alokolaro was an incredible, giving, hard working social worker through out many Seattle shelters including Hopelink and Solid Ground for over 30 years. Anita raised three amazing daughters being a single Mom and working several social worker jobs to make ends meet. She was so determined to give her daughters an amazing life and they are thriving today!

Girls Giving Back founder Teresa Valley met her at the Hopelink Shelter in Kenmore and immediately felt her caring spirit to help others. Anita then pushed GGB to become a non profit and continue its work in the shelters, with the next project after Hopelink being Solid Ground Broadview. In 2016 this world lost an earth angel, when Anita passed from Cancer. This loss is what has pushed GGB to keep growing and continue to make a difference in homeless shelters in the Puget Sound area.

Since Anita passed GGB has honored her memory with the Anita Alokolaro memorial award each year at the auction, and we honor a person or organization for the amazing work they do in the community and help them get their vision to the next level by raising funds for them at the auction. Anita’s Daughters support this by attending and helping to give out the award. Anita would be so happy to know that more people are being helped even after her passing.

Thank you Anita for being such an example to all of us of what a Kindness Warrior should be.
