The impact of a coach....
Coach (n) someone who can get his/her player(s) to reach their full potential. The word coach , this word can bring several thoughts or images to mind, especially for those of us who have been honored enough to have someone pour into us. A coach, or teacher, can play a critical role in our life and we either accept the push or we resist it.
In our lifetime we may also be called to coach, parent, or teach. Whatever word you choose the important thing is do you accept the challenge? When you do, you could change a life for the better so much more than you realize. It can sometimes be something you weren’t expecting. A student, child or even an adult that needs extra care. It can provide the shift that someone needs.
I feel like many of us have this opportunity in our lifetime to make a difference in someone else’s life. Steve Jobs mentored Mark Zuckerberg. Maya Angelou provided mentorship to Oprah Winfrey. Mrs. Winfrey said, ‘She was there for me always, guiding me through some of the most important years of my life, Mentors are important, and I don’t think anybody makes it in the world without some form of mentorship.’ Michelle Obama was designated as Barack’s mentor at the law firm that they both worked while he was an associate. Simply put mentoring, coaching and teacher are critical to success.
When that calling comes do you take it? Do you feel the need to go beyond what may be the calling of your coaching? In my experience, when we take the steps to go above and beyond it makes life worth living. I personally have had some amazing teachers/coaches that lifted me up, sometimes just by their presence and their simple words of encouragement.
It doesn’t take much and sometimes we don’t even realize the impact. Look around you and know that your impact matters. Get out there and use those gifts!
