Determination
Be Kind 5 was founded to connect people and transform their lives, through meaningful opportunities to give back, workshops and community events. As we know creating meaningful volunteer opportunities requires a clear vision, consistency, organization and excellent people skills. Organization that master these elements provide rich opportunities that feel good and create real change. We asked Girls Giving Back founder and Kindness Warrior Teresa Valley how GGB engages their volunteers and what the “secret sauce” is to their work:
Q: How are you and your volunteers able to pull this off a shelter transformation in just a few weeks?
A: I would say the determination comes from passion. And what gives me passion is using my creativity, I feel my anxiety melt away when I am creating.
Q: How does having high expectations or goals impact your work?
A: I get asked all of the time why I set such demanding goals. It’s easier, maybe there is stress in that, but its short term. The long term reward is so empowering.
Q: What traits do you bring to this work?
A: I get to put my skills to use: the gift of asking, creating connections, letting the process flow, and challenging myself. And yes, its not always easy, that is what makes our determination shine. And knowing that what you are doing is the right thing, for everyone involved.
Q: Any tips for people looking to take on a big project?
A: I would say the strategy in the end is using your experiences, I have 10 years of experience with GGB and our volunteers/donors. And know that it all works out when you are being your genuine authentic self.
Thank you GGB for making volunteering accessible and impactful! Who do you volunteer with Kindness Warrior?
