Unstoppable Team
Some of you may know me from Girls Giving Back and Be Kind 5’s fundraiser, from a couple months ago! For those of you who don’t know me, my name’s Cassidy Huff, I’m seventeen years old and I have a rare genetic kind of dwarfism that affects everything in my body. I performed at the 2019 Girls Giving Back Annual Art & Wine Auction with my friend Zoser and it was so much fun! Then, Teresa surprised me by helping me fundraise for my service dog who I didn’t even have yet! I couldn’t believe the outpouring of support from complete strangers!
In August I was visiting Brigadoon Assistance Dogs, which is the organization that I got my service dog from. I hadn’t found my service dog match yet and I had already met a total of about twenty-five dogs over the course of two years. In walked the last dog that I was going to see that day. His name was Champ and he was an eighty pound English Black Lab. The handler let him off leash and I instantly felt like he was meant for me!
In October, we went to team training for two weeks! I learned everything about Champ, including how to take care of him and the many cues he knows! We both passed all of our tests and he gained his title as a service dog!
Since the day we met, we have been an unstoppable team! Thank you to all of you who helped bring Champ home! It took almost two years on the waiting list, ten thousand dollars, and a lot of patience but we did it! I truly couldn’t have done it without all of your support and kindness!
